In Athens, we completed a sports facility featuring a textile cover designed to protect an open-air ice rink from direct sunlight. The goal of the structure is to reduce thermal impact, which can negatively affect ice quality—even during the winter season.

The system is built with transverse 2D steel trusses that provide the necessary strength and span while keeping overall weight to a minimum. The cover is made of UV- and weather-resistant textile, helping extend the lifespan of the ice surface and improve overall usability of the facility.

The rink operates seasonally, during periods when temperatures allow for the creation and maintenance of ice. Thanks to the protective cover, the facility benefits from a longer operational period and consistent ice quality throughout the winter.
